Living Consciously with Carol Carnes
July 17, 2010 - Emerson said in his essay on Compensation: The changes which break up at short intervals the prosperity of men are advertisements of a nature whose law is growth. More

David Benoit Takes # 1 Spot on the Smooth Jazz Now TOP 30 Countdown
July 15, 2010 – It’s never surprising but always an event when a Smooth Jazz superstar reaches the number one position on our TOP 30 Countdown. Case in point David Benoit’s new album ‘Earthglow’ has just produced our new number one tune with ‘Will’s Chill.’ More

Me: A Selfish Work in Progress - By Andrea Connell
July 17, 2010 - I believe in being the best you can be. It isn’t always easy, sometimes we end up on a slippery slope no matter what, sometimes, one too many glasses of wine can blur the line between smart and not so smart, sometimes our deep-seated crap just gets in the way. But I try anyway. More

Christian Meditation? How to do the Christian Meditation
July 17, 2010 - When you hear people say meditation, there is a great chance that you will often think of Buddhist monks humming with their hands on their large beads. You will also imagine bald people in yellow robes reaching enlightenment. More

Meditation - A Waste of Time?
July 17, 2010 - Many would say yes, meditation takes up too much time!

Time is one of the few commodities we cannot save or store. Everyone is allotted 24 hours in a day and most of us have busy lifestyles with little time to lose. It would appear spending ½ to one hour sitting perfectly still doing nothing might easily fall into the category of a useless activity devouring precious time. More

Spiritual Awakening
July 17, 2010 - Spiritual awakening refers to soul awakening, self-development, and self-transformation, leading to a balanced and integrated life, internal joy and a more fulfilling spiritual life purpose.

Spiritual awakening is a gradual process; it is the unwritten commandment that we are unconsciously following. The only need is to become aware of it and then making little steps toward it consciously. More

Superwoman & The A-ha Moment
July 15, 2010 - “It's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.” This anonymous line from an e-mail packed with insightful gems sums up exactly what I’ve been feeling lately.

Years ago while attending a Pow Wow, I was privileged to sit in an Aboriginal healing circle. As individuals shared their grief for the benefit of healing, although I revealed nothing from my own life, I wept non-stop for over two-hours. When I asked the Shaman leading this circle the reason for my reaction she explained, “You are a channel. It’s a gift from the Great Spirit. You cry the tears others cannot.” More

Every Day Provides an Opportunity to Start Over

June 22, 2010 - Do you wake up some days and just wish that you had a different life? Or perhaps wish that you had been born into different circumstances? Do you feel trapped or that your wings have been clipped and that you just cannot fly? Do you feel that your life just happens around you whilst you barely exist? Or perhaps you are stuck upon a treadmill that you just cannot get off?

If you feel any or all of these things and you would like to change then you will find that it is far easier than you thought. In fact this type of change only takes a split second to come into effect because all of these feelings are just that - feelings. They are YOUR feelings based upon YOUR perception of your world. You do not HAVE to perceive your circumstances in this way. In fact it is your perceptions which are keeping you trapped in this negative emotional spiral.

I'm not trying to be hard or tough on anyone here. In fact my intention is to help you to find a way in which you can feel better right now. No matter what is going on around you, it is only you who chooses your reactions and feelings about it. Nobody else can do that for you. There are people who are in the most horrendous circumstances who feel optimistic and happy and enjoy their life; there are others who live in what you would think are the most beautiful surroundings who are dissatisfied and unhappy. It is all a matter of each person's chosen perspective; and you have the ability to choose your perspective, which means that you can choose to change your sensory experiences at any time. That is wonderful news is it not? More

Living Consciously with Carol Carnes

June 22, 2010 - The answers to the deepest questions in our hearts are often diametrically opposed to the conclusions we draw from our observations of experience. We mistakenly think that birth and death are demarcations for life, when really, life is forever and the so-called beginnings and endings are merely the rising and fading of a particular expression. Just as the toddler we once were is living inside us, so the human being is living in the Spiritual Body of universal consciousness at all times; in the seen and unseen realm of being. To think otherwise is to live with pain and sorrow as we watch our loved ones move into that otherworld.

Our linear view of things tends to fix us in time and space and make us into objects that are acted upon rather than beings who are acting upon the field of experience via the avenue of awareness. So, when we feel sick we feel attacked or that we have been invaded. We expect the sickness to run its course guided by its own intelligence and not receptive to ours. A relationship falls apart and we blame the other person for not loving us properly. We believe we have been robbed of our ability to love. We think we have been rejected. We expect to hurt and feel alone. It never occurs to us that we are the source of love whether it appears in an outer form or as a feeling in us. More

Five Unexpected Steps to Breaking the Procrastination Habit

June 22, 2010 - I almost didn't write this article. There were so many interesting things to do, like check email and watch funny videos on YouTube. After all, there is always tomorrow for work.

Procrastination. It's a nasty habit. It takes your life, creativity, and self worth and trashes them.

What are you supposed to do about it? Don't you just love the suggestion to Just Do It? Like you hadn't thought of that. From someone who slays this dragon daily here are five tips that may surprise you.

Change your focus.
Stop thinking about how much you have to do. Focus instead on how great you will feel when you complete the task or project. Every time you start thinking about this unfinished project looming over you, switch your thoughts to how you will feel when it is complete.

Instead of struggling to resist distractions, try ignoring them instead. Ever decided you weren't going to have sweets for a week? You start craving donuts when you don't even like them! It is the same with distractions. It seems crazy, but focusing on the distraction makes it even harder to resist. Just relax and shift your focus to what you do want.

Get over yourself.
Did you know that procrastinators are closet perfectionists? We are famous for taking on enormous tasks and then being surprised when we feel completely overwhelmed. More

Along Came a Spider by Mary Giuffre

June 22, 2010 - Death has been on my mind lately.  It’s not that I’m concerned about my own inevitable passing, but because I recently received a heart wrenching e-mail, from a wonderful woman who, while caring for her husband as best she can, is watching helplessly as his body, shrunken from the ravages of chemotherapy is slipping away from her.

“I am a mess of emotions,” she explained. “To know ahead of time that you are leaving and will not be with the people and everything you love so much is so cruel. To know ahead of time that someone you love so much is leaving you is so cruel.  People say to me to make the best of the time we have left together but it is so difficult not to just cry all the time.”

Feeling the sting of her unbearable sadness and knowing I was at a loss to console her with anything I might say, my day continued with mundane chores and seemingly endless reflection on the frailties of life, until down from the ceiling, dangling on a long silken thread, a delicate little spider lowered herself gracefully into my line of sight. Is Your Life Off-Balance?

June 20, 2010 - Millions of Americans live their life off balance, lurching from one event to the next, but it may not be as bad as it seems.

According to a study by the Families and Work Institute, a third of U.S. employees are chronically overworked and about half have been overworked at some point in the past month. Couple that statistic with the ever increasing number of Americans who are out of work, and it becomes clear that more and more of us are unmistakably off-kilter and out of sorts.

Juggling all aspects of life has always been a balancing act, but author and speaker Dan Thurmon believes that an off balance life should not be fixed, but rather, embraced.

"Every day, we are inundated with messages about the importance of finding ‘balance' in our lives," said Thurmon, author of Off Balance On Purpose - Embrace Uncertainty and Create a Life You Love, from Greenleaf Book Group Press (www.offbalanceonpurpose.com). "How does this make us feel? Overwhelmed, out of touch, and unfulfilled. The problem isn't us—it's the message. Perfect balance is unachievable and undesirable. The perpetual quest for balance ends up limiting growth, progress, and the quality of life." More

Living Consciously with Carol Carnes

June 20, 2010 - Human Beings are not things inhabiting space, separated from the universe itself. That is an old, out of date, mechanistic view of reality. Today we see that life is a web of relationships, that this universe is a dynamic, organic, living experience in awareness. Well, that last word may be the next realization, but to some of us it seems apparent that life itself is conscious. Each one of us is a point of individualized awareness in the Whole. This is not unlike ancient scripture which said that we are part of the body of God.

It may be that science will at last reveal to us the true nature of Being, yet our own senses are attuned to this higher awareness. We know that we exist; we think; we feel; we imagine; we invent and discover what was already there in the invisible realm, like electricity and gravity. We make art and music out of nothing more than our intention.

Our religions were met to prepare us to awaken to the living presence of the Infinite in everyday life. The problem was that religions became trapped in the mechanistic view of reality and therefore humans were seen as nothing but particles occupying space attempting to find their way back to some place in the universe where the Source lives. The Source itself was described as stern and judgmental, allowing only some into its presence. More

What Is The True Nature of God?

June 20, 2010 - Being religious doesn't necessarily equate to being inflexible.

On the surface, the recent statistics that show more than 70 percent of all people in America are affiliated with some level of religious belief. It would appear that we're a nation of believers, but a deeper look at the numbers demonstrates that people of faith in the United States don't strictly adhere to the dogma of their religions.

According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, 69 percent of people who consider themselves people of faith also believe that there is more than one way to interpret the teachings of their religion.

Alan Richards, author of the new novel The Second Cycle from Emerald Book Company, believes that this phenomenon is directly related to our continuing search for the true nature of God. More

Altitude is Everything

June 18, 2010 - I woke up very early this morning to gulls in flight silhouetted on a magnificent orange sunrise, and as God rays glistened on the horizon, I contemplated how people choose to allow their lives to play out.

You see, in the past three weeks I’ve travelled almost 1500 kilometres visiting family members who are contemplating death through the ailments they’ve chosen and those who have been left behind after a loved decided to succumb to illness and transition to the other side.  There have also been endless phone conversations and e-mails with individuals in crisis over chosen behaviours that are causing irreparable damage to relationships and even more news of acquaintances deciding to deal with similar traumas.

Many will argue adamantly. “We were given free will, so why on earth would I choose this!? Sometime s**t just happens!”.  But it doesn’t.  Our Divine Creator has been extremely fair with this gift of free will, so whether we accept it or not, everything that happens to us is our personal choice and we don’t just decide on the good stuff. A Disappointing Return for Sade
REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love

June 16, 2010 – There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party.

Not to be taken lightly, Sade, the lady and band, has only released 6 albums of original music but stand as one of the most successful musical outlets of the last 25 years. Staying power is rare but Sade certainly has it and her voice, even on this album, is the stuff of angels. Still haunting, peaceful and distinctive, it's a quality that's truly rare in music and it's as captivating as the sirens song.

The album kicks off with “The Moon and the Sky” which, without comparisons to the past, sounds like a garden-variety album track from a generic Smooth Jazz vocalist but it’s still drop-dead boring and gloomy at that. More

Living Consciously with Carol Carnes

June 10, 2010 - As the great Thomas Troward wrote a century ago, the creative process is everywhere and is the same in the universal as it is in the personal. We are drawing from and expressing with the Intelligence that is behind all sentient life and the universe itself. Another way of understanding what this means to us is to ask: Is God enjoying itself as my life? What am I giving It to do? If I were the power that makes all things new, would I be getting rusty from lack of use?

It is understandable that we have trouble believing this basic truth. We are feeling beings, emotional memory systems and our bodies seem to be the real self. The physical realm is seductive and convinces us of our fallibility. Well, yes, these bodies are only temporary. This brain is a vehicle for consciousness. But the Consciousness of Being is the leader and the eternality of us and it is the only way that we make changes, progress and create newness. The body doesn’t do it by itself. The brain does not think new thoughts. It is the Self Awareness that directs the creative process by means of us. More
