March 18, 2010 - My relationship with religion comes from a childhood and adolescence as a mini Catholic and although I loved to sing my heart out in the choir on Sunday mornings, even as a little kid I never really bought into the whole religion thing. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not down on Roman Catholics or any other religious individuals for that matter. I realize they are all just people doing the best they can to get through this life, but personally I never really got it. Actually, I still don’t.
The way I see it, most religions have a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices that carry huge and treacherous personal penalties if individuals fall out of line. Most religious people I know are a devoted, unwavering, meticulous, but fearful lot. They’ve studied a human interpretation of scripture that says “the man upstairs” is this all-powerful angry creator guy who is judge, jury and executioner of everyone and everything. I think it’s pretty reasonable to be afraid of that story!
As I refused to buy what religion was selling, I took off on my own joy ride, leaving behind anything that had to do with God or whatever anybody else chose to call “Him”. However, after ardently avoiding any thought or opinion in this area, a need for some Divine intervention was dumped squarely on my head a number of years later and I was opened up to seeing our Creator in a whole new way. God was no longer about religion and the oneness of ALL that is became very apparent.

My life’s experiences have allowed me to recognize and accept that from rocks to humans, we are all spiritual beings living a human existence. This is not something I feel the need to prove to anyone else, but is a KNOWINGNESS I feel to the depth of my being, so my relationship with spirit has absolutely nothing to do with church God.
As the world’s been fighting “god inspired” wars pretty much since the creation of religion, we’re all aware of how easy it is for
people to argue about their chosen faith. For me, spirituality means that ALL things are part of life as we know it. There can be no argument about whether there IS life, or whether all things are part of life because we’re all here, partaking of everything this life has to offer. So
all people participate in Spirituality and agree with it by default! They don’t necessarily know or accept that they do because they don’t understand that the meaning of Spirituality is nothing more than life itself ~ as it really is!
In the simplest terms, I see Spirituality as our ALL connected universal energy, our Greatness, our Divinity. We’re ALL here as ONE, sharing love and respect for ALL that is. There are no Spiritual rules, no Spiritual expectations and absolutely no fear of Spiritual damnation. Our Spiritual essence knows we are here for only one reason. LOVE. Because LOVE is ALL there is.
